Write on your phone
I started writing on my phone a few years ago and I’ve never gone back. It’s so much easier to transfer information from my notes. When I think of a scene I can easily open my writing app and input what I just thought of.
Also, don’t underestimate the time prediction on your phone’s keyboard saves you. I literally don’t have to type names anymore.
Write the Blurb first
Writing the blurb first is one of the best time savers I discovered two years ago. A blurb is basically what you see on the backs of books. It’s the perfect foundation to start your story.
And it doesn’t have to be a super well done blurb. Just enough for you to start writing.
You can always edit the blurb according to the changes you make while writing.
Write an outline
Forget about being a pantser, you’re a planner now. Outline your story.
Writing an outline doesn’t take finesse as well.
For me it’s basically
FMC does this. Then she goes here. Then mmc goes here. Then this happens and so on. And a lot of dialogue too
Forget about “quotation marks”
I never thought about how stopping the flow of the story to input quotation marks really stalled my writing until one day I found myself writing dialogue without quotation marks.
I was so surprised to find out how much time it saved.
Keep all your writing aid tabs open in your browser
My writing aid includes a thesaurus website, emotional descriptions website, fantasy name generators and sometimes baby name websites. Keep all your tabs open. It helps!
Use The Notes App
The notes app on my phone works really well for me to organise my thoughts and information. Some people use the Notion app. As long as it takes notes, use it.
Don’t edit as you go
You’re writing a first draft, not a final product. It’s supposed to be messy. Forget about editing until the first rough draft is done.
