About me and my books

Erhu Kome is a romance and speculative fiction author living in Northumberland. She comes from the Urhobo tribe and grew up in the great city of Benin, so you could say she has eaten and knows how to cook some of the most delicious foods in the world.

She writes stories filled with magic and sometimes a few stories without magic, which in its own way is sort of magical.

Her debut YA fantasy novel The Smoke That Thunders has been published in two territories and had its audio rights sold at auction to Recorded Books. The Smoke That Thunders was named a Junior Library Guild Gold Standard Selection, a Tome Society Book Award winner, and an Honor Book for the Children’s Africana Book Awards and was shortlisted for the 2025 Nommo Awards For Best Novel. It was also listed among Brittlepaper’s 100 Notable African Books of 2024.

Her mission, one she has chosen to accept, is to showcase the underrepresented cultures, myths, and traditions of the Nigerian people in her stories.

When she’s not writing, mentoring, or dreaming up new stories, you’ll find her reading a book from her never-ending TBR list, watching anime, and living like a tourist in her city.
